Egypt

I'm watching the events in Egypt in particular and the region in general with great hope for the people of the middle-east and a peaceful transition to freedom and democracy.

Gas prices be damned if it works out it would be well worth almost any price over the near term.

Feel the same way about Iran back in 1979? How'd that work out for ya? Granted, this transition is not so Islamy (though watch out for the "Brotherhood") and there's the Anderson Cooper beating (ha, but I kid (sort of)). Here's praying for the best.

Well sunshine, if we hadn't toppled Iran's democratically elected government and imposed the brutal shah on the Iranians for a quarter century 1979 wouldn't have happened.

Of course any revolution can go badly wrong, but we've also got many examples of them going very right and although the Brotherhood has been a problem in the past, they demonstrating self-restraint the makes me causiously hopeful.

Here's to praying for secularism.
